Mar 2017: Fermoy Wins Gold .
International publication Destination Golf recently released its 2017 edition of Irelands Top 150 golf courses. All the courses are given a rating of Platinum, Gold or Silver. Fermoy along with five other courses in Munster (Doonbeg, Castlemartyr, Killarney (Killeen), Dundrum House and Ballybunion (Cashen) got a Gold rating. Kevin Markham, editor of Destination Golf and author of well-known golf publication “Hooked” summarises his experience of Fermoy. Fermoy is joyful, exuberant, unpretentious and exhilarating golf. As a country course, many golfers have not heard of it and would simply drive by as it doesn’t have the name or recognition required to turn heads. That’s a shame as Fermoy is all about the fun that makes golf such a wonderful game to play. Laced with attractive pine trees and a landscape that twists and buckles over hilly, heather-strewn terrain, the further into the round you go, the more you get the feeling of being tossed about like a boat in a squall. The front nine have some sweet elevations, making the most of them with smart tee box and green settings, while the back nine offer views over countryside and some deep rolling chasms. It may not have the smart frills of Ireland’s glamorous courses, but spend a day at Fermoy and you will enjoy the adventure. This is a fantastic achievement by the club and one that Staff, Management and members is very proud of. It was not that long ago that the club was hit badly by Storm Darwin (Feb-2014) and lost four hundred trees which required huge work by staff and volunteers jointly. Goes to show hard work does pay off, Fermoy take a bow.

Mar 2017: Course Notice to Members.
A proposal from the course committee was discussed at the C.O.M. meeting on Monday 27th February. This proposal is that the proceeds from the planned Club Classic in August go towards upgrading / improving the condition of the ”poorer” tee boxes on the course. In order to show members what can be done it was proposed to do work on one tee box (fifth tee boxes) as a sample. Members can then see for themselves the results / standard of work and hopefully support the classic in August 2017 and we can complete our weaker tee boxes in September 2017. The COM accepted this proposal and work will start on the fifth tee boxes (Gents / Ladies)next week. Commencing Monday March 6th and will be carried out by Adrian Hogan (external contractor)who carried out the drainage work very successfully on the greens over the last number of years . The work will consist of: Cutting the sod on tee boxes / removing. Level and grade surface with laser controlled grading machine. Spread sand on surface / make edges good. Re-sod tee boxes, seed and fertilise. This will mean that we will have temporary tee boxes in place till the start of May when its planned to have the upgraded tee boxes in play . We thank members in advance for their co-operation. Course Committee / Committee of Management.
